Water Damage Information and Tips
Water damage can occur at any time and can be caused by a number of things. Pipes break, water heaters wear out, plumbing backs up or a natural disaster can cause a flood. When water damage occurs it is important not to panic. The first thing to do is stop the water source and the next thing to do is call a water damage expert like PermaClean, Inc. Remove as much excess water as possible my mopping the area or using a wet/dry vac

Wipe as much excess water from wood furniture as you can and remove tabletop lamps and other items from the furniture

Turn the air conditioning on for maximum drying in the summer and open the windows in the
winter

Remove any artwork and paintings from the walls

Remove any area rugs from the floor and hang to dry

Remove wet upholstery cushions from the frame and prop them up to dry

Place plastic or aluminum foil under any furniture legs that are not plastic

Punch tiny holes in a sagging ceiling to relieve trapped water, place something underneath the holes
beforehand to collect any trapped water.

Leave magazines, books or other colored items on wet carpets or floors
Use a regular vacuum to remove excess water

Turn on electrical appliances while standing on wet carpets, floors or especially on wet concrete floors.

Turn on ceiling fixtures is the ceiling is wet, stay out of rooms where the ceiling is sagging from retained water
